Copyright and Appropriate Technology Use

    Copyright is a legal protection that prevents people from claiming or using work that is not theirs without the authors permission. Fair use is an exception to copyright that allows someone to use a work they did not make without the authors permission. in order for something to be fair use, the amount of the work used must be small or at least not at the center of the new work (ex. using quotes in a research paper). In a classroom setting this effects the use of certain learning programs, textbooks, and presentations without paying for them, as sometimes these things are provided for free online but other times they are pirated, which is illegal.
    Technology also presents issues when students use it improperly. for example, plagiarism is becoming a growing problem as students copy and paste information they find online rather than writing their own words. to combat this, some schools pay for a plagiarism checker that student answers can be put through. some students also use their technology access to bully other students online, which can be more difficult for teachers to handle if it is done on personal devices or on non- school websites like social media. some schools will still take reports of bullying that occur outside of school grounds and will talk to parents about this.
    Making the newsletter made me better at inserting images into word without moving all the text around. now I know to just change the image-text interaction settings so that inserting the image doesn't push all the text out of the way. I also got better at blocking out a page to make discernable sections. Also, word has some fun Halloween themed images on its site that can be inserted to fill in black space.

"Digital Native"

 I think the "digital native" label can certainly apply to members of younger generations who grew up with a lot of technology exposure. however, I don't think you can label an entire generation as native because there are always outliers whos' parents limited their access as kids so now they are less adept than others. I defiantly have noticed a difference between my tech skills versus my teachers (in 8th grade I was somehow designated as "the one to fix the smartboard" even though "fixing" it was turning it off and on again). Since I plan on becoming a teacher for young children, I anticipate limiting how much I use computers in teaching to focus more on in person socialization skills. The resource I use most frequently for help in my education is probably my friends in the classes I take that can help me understand anything I've missed. I also talk to my parents, both of whom are teachers, when I have questions about teaching as a career.

Diigo, Blogging, and Web 2.0

     I think Diigo can defiantly be useful in a professional setting to share information or sources. In this class I think its helpful to learn how it works, and to start doing research for when i do eventually go into a classroom as a teacher. Right now I can't really use some of the sources since I'm not a teacher yet, but i think it has helped me build a background.     A s for blogging, writing on public forums still makes me a little nervous because I am very cautious about my digital footprint and what I say online. I do like the more informal vibe of blogs though. I like being able to write in shorter stints rather that long essays. I also liked learning about all to the things you can link to a blog, like twitter accounts and license information.     When I do become a teacher, if I need students to watch videos for class, I would use Youtube kids to ensure i don't accidently present inappropriate information.
