Standards, CPALM, and Internet Searching

 

    This standard deals with using technology to foster student teamwork. 1.1 deals with specific tools students can use for activities. 1.2 deals with using technology to keep resources for work useful and fun.
1.3 says to explain how technology can aid in collaboration. 1.4 says to elaborate on why teamwork is helpful for completing projects. Finally 1.5 says to explain why receiving feedback from others in a group can improve performance.
    On the CPALM site, I found a 3rd grade math resource for learning how to find perimeter. i liked this resource because it has a word problem to help kids visualize what they are looking for when they find a perimeter, but it also has supplemental questions to ensure they are less likely to get confused and mix it up with finding side lengths or areas. it also gives different orders for adding the sides together to try and adapt to different thinking styles and ways of breaking down problems. this is the resource: https://www.cpalms.org/PreviewResourceStudentTutorial/Preview/199143

    As a teacher, it is important to be able to search the internet in order to check facts for class, find presentation and resources for material covered, and find other relevant information. Knowing how to exclude certain results can be useful to avoid irrelevant or inappropriate content. I think I will likely use the advanced search option again to find common licensed material. i also didn't know about the tools for image searching on google, and may use that to find images in colors that match the asthetic of whatever i put the image in.

"Digital Native"

 I think the "digital native" label can certainly apply to members of younger generations who grew up with a lot of technology exposure. however, I don't think you can label an entire generation as native because there are always outliers whos' parents limited their access as kids so now they are less adept than others. I defiantly have noticed a difference between my tech skills versus my teachers (in 8th grade I was somehow designated as "the one to fix the smartboard" even though "fixing" it was turning it off and on again). Since I plan on becoming a teacher for young children, I anticipate limiting how much I use computers in teaching to focus more on in person socialization skills. The resource I use most frequently for help in my education is probably my friends in the classes I take that can help me understand anything I've missed. I also talk to my parents, both of whom are teachers, when I have questions about teaching as a career.

Diigo, Blogging, and Web 2.0

     I think Diigo can defiantly be useful in a professional setting to share information or sources. In this class I think its helpful to learn how it works, and to start doing research for when i do eventually go into a classroom as a teacher. Right now I can't really use some of the sources since I'm not a teacher yet, but i think it has helped me build a background.     A s for blogging, writing on public forums still makes me a little nervous because I am very cautious about my digital footprint and what I say online. I do like the more informal vibe of blogs though. I like being able to write in shorter stints rather that long essays. I also liked learning about all to the things you can link to a blog, like twitter accounts and license information.     When I do become a teacher, if I need students to watch videos for class, I would use Youtube kids to ensure i don't accidently present inappropriate information.
